Lustron Homes: 60th Anniversary
The Franchised Lustron Dealer for La Porte and Porter counties was Tonn & Blank, Inc., Michigan City. Their display house was erected at 115 DeWolfe Street in Michigan City and opened on Saturday, May 28, 1949. 12,000 visitors inspected the house during the first weekend. 1933 Chicago World’s Fair - A Century of
Progress: 75th Anniversary
The Chicago World’s Fair — A Century of Progress opened on Saturday, May 27, 1933. The popular international exposition reopened on Saturday, May 26, 1934. 49 million visitors went to the Fair before it closed on Halloween night Wednesday, October 31, 1934. The largest remaining pieces of the Fair are located in Beverly Shores. Robert Bartlett Realty company purchased 16 structures at the close of the Fair and relocated them by truck and barge to NW Indiana. Six buildings remain there today. Learn more

Chicago Lake Shore & South Bend RR: 100th Anniversary
The Chicago Lake Shore & South Bend RR, later renamed the Chicago South Shore & South Bend RR completed the initial round trip between Michigan City and South Bend with the first east-bound one-car train on Tuesday, June 30, 1908. The car encountered trouble at Hudson Lake and was delayed several hours. Learn more

Class Reunion: Beverly Shores Elementary School, 1931-1980 - 50 years
The Beverly Shores Elementary School served the community for 50 years. An all-class reunion is scheduled for Sunday, August 3, 2008, at the Depot, 11:30 am ‘til 3:30 pm. "Legends of Beverly Shores": Return to Lenard's Casino — 1938 - 1967
Robert Bartlett had the beachfront Casino built in 1935. The over-water dining room was added in 1936. Chicago restaurateur, Ignatz Lenard purchased the business in 1938 and his family operated it until 1967. A hotel wing was added during their second year. The Red Lantern Inn replaced Lenard’s in 1968 and remained open until October 1986. Learn more

Beverly Shores A Century of Progress Architectural District
Updated displays featuring each house in the District, as renovations continue on the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair, Homes and Industrial Arts Group, exhibit houses and the recently added Lustron Houses. Robert Bartlett Realty Company purchased the Fair structures and relocated them to Northwest Indiana in 1935. Concurrent with the annual Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore house tours in October, 2008.
